(D) Conservation of Circulations in Turbulent Flow

چکیده

We have emphasized the importance of developing a better understanding of the dynamical & statistical origin of the positivity of vortex-stretching rate 〈ω̄! S!ω̄!〉 > 0. For the fine-grained vorticity (! → 0), this is important in Taylor’s proposed mechanism for production of energy dissipation 〈ν|ω|2〉. For ! in the inertial-range, we have seen that the flux of energy to small-scales is proportional to the stretching rate: 〈Π!〉 ∝ !〈ω̄! S!ω̄!〉, to a first approximation, local in space and in scale. A deeper understanding of the vortexstretching process might help us to better predict and control turbulent flow.

Turbulent Cascade of Circulations

The circulation around any closed loop is a Lagrangian invariant for classical, smooth solutions of the incompressible Euler equations in any number of space dimensions. However, singular solutions relevant to turbulent flows need not preserve the classical integrals of motion. Here we generalize the Kelvin theorem on conservation of circulations to distributional solutions of Euler and give ne...

Turbulent Diffusion of Lines and Circulations

We study material lines and passive vectors in a model of turbulent flow at infiniteReynolds number, the Kraichnan-Kazantsev ensemble of velocities that are white-noise in time and rough (Hölder continuous) in space. It is argued that the phenomenon of “spontaneous stochasticity” generalizes to material lines and that conservation of circulations generalizes to a “martingale property” of the st...

The Perturbation Flow Field Associated With Passage of Turbulent Spot (RESEARCH NOTE)

The flow field associated with the passage of the turbulent spot in a 3–D duct with streamline divergence under zero pressure gradients was investigated and displayed as contour plots of the velocity perturbation in plan and elevation view of the spot. It suggests that, streamline divergence has no strong effect on the internal structure of the spot and eddies and their propagation in the downs...

Turbulent Flow in 2-D Domains with Complex Geometry-Finite Elelment Method

Using the highly recommended numerical techniques, a finite element computer code is developed to analyse the steady incompressible, laminar and turbulent flows in 2-D domains with complex geometry. The Petrov-Galerkin finite element formulation is adopted to avoid numerical oscillations. Turbulence is modeled using the two equation k-ω model. The discretized equations are written in the form o...
